Very important: Please be sure you have your audition video and dance video (see below) recorded BEFORE filling out the audition form.

We will be holding online video auditions for Mary Poppins with in-person callbacks.  Please read the following information carefully.

Auditions will be held online only via video submission. All audition videos are due no later than midnight on Friday, June 5th.

In-person callbacks will be held on Saturday, June 13th.  Location TBD.

We ask that all actors and actresses be 100% available during the evening hours from Monday, August 31st to the end of the run on September 19th.  This is when we will be doing full run throughs and the majority of the show comes together.  It becomes too hard if people miss rehearsal during this time.  If you have any conflicts during these dates, we kindly ask that you either not audition or discuss your specific situation with us before auditioning.

We are currently planning on double casting the roles of Jane and Michael. All other roles will be single cast.

Please prepare the following 2 items for your audition:

1) Vocal Audition

  • A vocal song from a musical from any show other than Mary Poppins.  Length should be somewhere around 32 bars or 1-minute long. No acapella auditions allowed.  Please use a karaoke backing track from YouTube or equivalent. Live accompaniment is also acceptable if you have a pianist.
  • All audition songs are expected to be memorized.  Lengthy music introductions should be skipped.
  • Please state your name and the song you will be singing at the beginning of your video.
  • Musical selection should demonstrate your vocal abilities as well as your acting and facial expression. Show us your personality! Remember to select a piece that matches the style of the show and/or the role you’re hoping for.
  • Video auditions will need to be uploaded to YouTube or similar video hosting site with the privacy settings set to either “public” or “unlisted.”  We will not be able to view your video if it is set to “private.”

During our last round of auditions, we had several people who had issues with YouTube blocking their video due to copyright.  We have never had this happen in the past, so we apologize if your video gets blocked.  If this happens to you, please upload your video to Google Drive (or something similar like Dropbox or Vimeo) and then edit your audition form to include the correct link.  Please make sure the share setting on Google Drive is set to “anyone with the link can view.”  If you have any questions or need help, please contact us here.

2) Dance Audition

In addition to your vocal audition, please watch one of these videos and prepare a dance audition video.  You can include the dance video with your video audition if you know how to edit them together or you can provide two separate links.

You only need to prepare ONE dance audition video.  You do not need to learn both dances.

Dance auditions videos will need to be uploaded to YouTube with the privacy settings set to either “public” or “unlisted.”  We will not be able to view your video if it is set to “private.”

If you have tumbling skills or special tricks you would like to show us, please include these in your dance audition video.  There is also a question within your audition form where you can tell us about your tumbling abilities and dance experience.

If you are a child who is auditioning, feel free to simplify the movements in the dance video as needed if you find them difficult.  We mostly just need to see how you move.  Do the best you can.

All audition videos are due no later than midnight on Friday, June 5th.

Callbacks and additional info

In-person callbacks for Mary Poppins will be held on Saturday, June 13th from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. Location TBD.

If you are requested for callbacks, you will be sent an email on or before Monday, June 8th.  The email will include information about what you need to prepare for the callback.  You may be asked to dance, sing, or do cold readings at the callback as needed.  An alternate callback date will be offered if you are not able to attend our regular Saturday callback.  If you are requested at callbacks, we ask that you attend the Saturday date if at all possible and use the alternate date only if absolutely necessary.

Please keep in mind, not everyone who auditions will be needed at a callback.  Just because you do not receive a callback, does not mean you will not receive a role.

If you are offered a role, you will be emailed on or before Wednesday, June 17th and you will be given 2 days to accept or reject your role.  Cast list will be posted publicly on or before Monday, June 22nd. We will email you at the email address you give us on the audition gateway.  Please make sure you use a valid email address that you check regularly as this will be our primary form of communication.

Rehearsals begin on Monday, July 13th.

Rehearsals will be held on weekday evenings.  There will be no rehearsals on Saturdays or Sundays.  We don’t usually rehearse on Fridays but might add in Fridays toward the end of the rehearsal schedule.  Not all actors will be needed at all rehearsals or for the entire time.  Rehearsal times will be from 6:30-9:00 pm during the beginning of the rehearsal process and from 6:30-9:30 during the end of the rehearsal process.  Rehearsal location is TBD.  Tech week and performance days will have earlier call times and will go later into the evenings.

Please supply any dates that you know you have conflicts on your audition form. Any dates shared with us after rehearsals begin must be approved by the director. If you have specific questions about the rehearsal schedule dates, you can contact us here.  Otherwise, you will receive your schedule after casting is complete.

All actors will need to be available for evening rehearsals beginning on August 31st until the show wraps up on September 19th.  If you have any conflicts during these dates, we kindly ask that you either not audition or discuss your specific situation with us before auditioning.

We look forward to having you audition and getting to know you better.  If you have any questions or need help, you can contact us here.

Auditions for children

For this show, we will have children in the roles of Jane and Michael Banks.  We are currently planning to double cast both of these roles.  If you are auditioning for the role of Jane or Michael, please be aware that these are BIG roles with a lot of stage time.  We want you to be aware of the commitment of these two roles before you audition for them.  Jane and Michael will be needed at almost every rehearsal.

We are not planning to include very many children in the ensemble for this show but may include a few.  Our age limit for all children is 8 years old or older.  If your child will turn 8 on or before September 17th (the first performance), they are welcome to audition.  For children younger than this, we kindly ask that they audition in future years.  Thank you for your understanding.

For the dance portion of the audition, children are allowed to
simplify the movements in the dance video as needed if they find the movements too difficult.  We know it is a challenging, fast-paced dance and we mostly just need to see how you move.  Do your best!

If you have a child/children who are auditioning, please fill out a separate audition form for each child.  Please include name, email and phone number for the parent.  We will include the parent’s email on rehearsal communication that we send.

Very important: Please be sure you have your audition video and dance video recorded BEFORE filling out the audition form.
