Auditions for
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Important dates:

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Auditions, Boise Idaho, 2024

We will be holding open auditions for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by video submission with in-person callbacks.  Please read the following information carefully.

All video submissions must be received no later than Wednesday, July 10th by midnight.  Submissions received later than this deadline will not be considered.  We recommend submitting your audition video as soon as possible to avoid last-minute tech problems.

Your video should include the following:

Vocal Audition Video

  • An introduction: Please state your full name and what you will be performing for your song.
  • A vocal performance from a musical theater song from any show other than Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.  Length should be somewhere around 32 bars or 1-minute long. No acapella auditions allowed.  Please use a karaoke backing track or a live piano accompaniment.
  • Musical selection should demonstrate your vocal abilities as well as your acting and facial expression. Show us your personality!
  • Please do not reuse a video from a previous audition or performance.  Remember to select a piece that matches the style of the show and/or the role you’re hoping for.
  • All audition songs are expected to be memorized.  Do not plan to sing the entire song, only 1 minute of singing or less is needed.  Lengthy music introductions should be eliminated.

Dance Audition Video

All auditionees will also need to submit a dance audition video.

You can choose our basic dance video for most roles or if you’re interested in a dancing role, you can choose our Featured Dancer/Veruca Salt video.

Basic Dance Video or Featured Dancer/Veruca Salt Video

Please watch your choice of dance video and then learn and record yourself doing the dance as instructed.  You only need to prepare 1 dance audition in addition to your singing audition.

The dance audition video can be done in the same video as your vocal audition or can be done as two separate videos.  If you have two videos to submit, you can include the link to the second one in a comment on your audition form or you can email it to our stage manager Josh at joshuaswing01@gmail.com

Upload and submit your video(s):

Your video(s) will need to be recorded and hosted on YouTube (Vimeo has not been playing nice with our audition software lately, sorry!).  On YouTube, you can change your video privacy settings if you’d like
.  VERY IMPORTANT: YOUR YOUTUBE VIDEO NEEDS TO BE SET TO EITHER “PUBLIC” OR “UNLISTED.”  WE WON’T BE ABLE TO SEE VIDEOS SET TO “PRIVATE.”

You will need to complete the following two steps:

1) create an account on our audition gateway (click the button on the bottom of this page)
2) fill out the audition form within the gateway (click the second button at the bottom of this page, then click “schedule audition”).

Very important: Please supply any dates that you know you have conflicts for on your account on the audition gateway.

Auditions for children

There will be roles for children in this show.  If your child would like to audition, they will need to follow the instructions from above, including a vocal audition and one of the dance auditions.

For children, our age limit is 8 or older.  If your child will turn 8 on or before October 24th (the first performance), they are welcome to audition.  For children younger than this, we kindly ask that they audition in future years.  Thank you for your understanding.

If you have a child/children who are auditioning, please create a separate account for each child.  Once logged in, please add a parent as a contact on the contact tab of their profile.  Please include name, email and phone number for the parent.  We will include the parent’s email on any communication we send.

Callbacks and additional info

In-person callbacks for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory will be on July 29th and July 30th in the evenings.

If you are requested for callbacks, you will be sent an email on or before July 20th.  You may be given some music to prepare for callbacks and you may be asked to dance at callbacks.

If you are offered a role, you will be emailed on or before August 2nd and you will be given 2 days to accept or reject your role.  Cast list will be posted publicly on or before Monday, August 5th.  We will email you at the email address you give us on the audition gateway.  Please make sure you use a valid email address that you check regularly as this will be our primary form of communication.

Rehearsals begin on Monday, August 26th.

Rehearsals will primarily be on weekday evenings.  Not all actors will be needed at all rehearsals.  Times will be from 7:00-9:30 during August and most of September and from 6:30-9:30 during the end of September and all of October.  Tech week and performance days will have earlier call times.  Please supply any dates that you know you have conflicts for on your account on the audition gateway. If you have specific questions about the rehearsal schedule dates, please email our stage manager Josh at joshuaswing01@gmail.com
Otherwise you will receive your schedule after casting is complete.

We are asking all actors and actresses be 100% available during the evening hours from Monday, October 7th to the end of the run on October 26th.  This is when we will be doing full run throughs and the majority of the show comes together.  It becomes too hard if people miss rehearsal during this time.  If you have any conflicts during these dates, we kindly ask that you either not audition or discuss your specific situation with us before auditioning.

We look forward to having you audition and getting to know you better.  If you have any questions or need help, you can contact us here.

Not interested in auditioning but still want to get involved?  Come join us to help with set building crew, costuming and props, lighting and sound, stage crew, etc.!
