Seven Brides for Seven Brothers Auditions, Boise Idaho 2023

We will be holding open auditions for Seven Brides for Seven Brothers by video submission with in-person callbacks.  Audition videos are due by August 12th.  Please read the following information carefully.

All video submissions must be received no later than Friday, August 11th by midnight.  Submissions received later than this deadline will not be considered.  We recommend turning in your video as soon as possible to avoid last-minute problems.

Your video should include the following:

  • An introduction: Please state your full name and what you will be performing for your song.
  • A vocal performance from a show tune or folk song of your choice (no pop music).  Length should be somewhere around 32 bars or 1-minute long.  It is highly recommended to have an accompaniment (either live or a recording) but it is not required.
  • Musical selection should demonstrate your vocal abilities as well as your acting and facial expression.
  • All audition songs are expected to be memorized.  Do not plan to sing the entire song, only 1 minute of singing or less is needed.  Lengthy music introductions should be eliminated.

If you are auditioning for a bride, a brother, or a suitor please include the following:

Dance audition video: If you are auditioning for a bride, a brother, (including Adam and Milly) or a suitor, you will need to also submit a dance audition video.  Please watch
this dance instruction video and then learn and record yourself doing the dance as instructed.

The dance audition video can be done in the same video as your vocal audition or can be done as two separate videos.  If you have two videos, you can include the link to the second one in a comment on your audition form or you can email it to us at thehuckleberrystar@gmail.com

Upload and submit your video

Your video will need to be recorded and hosted on YouTube (Vimeo has not been playing nice with our audition software lately, sorry!).  On YouTube, you can change your video privacy settings if you’d like.  VERY IMPORTANT: YOUR YOUTUBE VIDEO NEEDS TO BE SET TO EITHER “PUBLIC” OR “UNLISTED.”  WE WON’T BE ABLE TO SEE VIDEOS SET TO “PRIVATE.”

You will need to complete the following two steps:

1) create an account on our audition gateway (click the button on the bottom of this page)
2) fill out the audition form within the gateway (click the second button at the bottom of this page).

Very important: Please supply any dates that you know you have conflicts for on your account on the audition gateway.

Auditions for children

Yes, we will be including a few children in this show as townspeople.  If your child would like to audition for one of our limited slots, they will need to follow the instructions from above but they DO NOT need to include the dance audition portion.

For children, our age limit is 8 or older.  If your child will turn 8 on or before November 11th, they are welcome to audition.  For children younger than this, we kindly ask that they audition in future years.  Thank you for your understanding.

If you have a child/children who are auditioning, please create a separate account for each child.  Once logged in, please add a parent as a contact on the contact tab of their profile.  Please include name, email and phone number for the parent.  We will include the parent’s email on any communication we send.

Callbacks and additional info

Callbacks for Seven Brides for Seven Brothers will be on August 19th.

If you are requested for callbacks, you will be sent an email on or before August 15th.  You may be given some music to prepare for callbacks and you may be asked to dance at callbacks.

If you are offered a role, you will be emailed on or before August 24th and you will be given 2 days to accept or reject your role.  Cast list will be posted publicly on Monday, August 28th.  We will email you at the email address you give us on the audition gateway.  Please make sure you use a valid email address that you check regularly as this will be our primary form of communication.

Rehearsals begin on Wednesday, September 6th and will primarily be in the evenings on weekdays.   If you have specific questions about the rehearsal schedule dates, feel free to contact us. Otherwise you will receive your schedule after casting is complete.

We are asking all actors and actresses be 100% available during the evening hours from October 30th to November 11th.  This is when the majority of the show comes together and it becomes too hard if people miss rehearsal during this time.  If you have any conflicts during these dates, we kindly ask that you either not audition or discuss your specific situation with us before auditioning.

We look forward to having you audition and getting to know you better.  If you have any questions or need help, you can contact us here.

Not interested in auditioning but still want to get involved?  Come join us to help with set building crew, costuming and props, lighting and sound, stage crew, etc.!
