Potluck Sign Up: Here is the link to the sign up genius for the potluck between the Saturday shows. Annie Cast: Annie Cast Saturday Potluck
Cast Party: We will be holding a cast party on Tuesday, April 7th at 6:00 pm at The Idaho Pizza Company in Meridian (Address: 405 E Fairview Ave, Meridian, ID 83642). Save the date…more details to come!
Script Return: Please return your script sometime before closing night in the box that is labeled “script return” that will be in the “Green Room/Classroom”
A rundown of the next couple of weeks:
This Saturday, we DO NOT need people to come help build the set. We have had tons of help the past few weeks and have finished everything that people can help with. THANK YOU SO MUCH to those who came to set build days. You guys are awesome!
Next week, the schedule continues to be all over the place. Please check the schedule carefully to be sure you are going to the correct location.
Next Friday, March 13th is “Move In” day on our schedule. Orphans DO NOT need to come this day. We will be loading the moving truck at the Nielsen’s home (5152 S. Margaret Avenue in Meridian) and then driving to the school and unloading the truck. Muscle help is what we need the most this day but any willing adult or helpful teen is welcome to come.
Next Saturday, March 14th is “Tech Set-Up” day on our schedule. Orphans DO NOT need to come this day. Adult/teen cast members do not need to come (unless you want to help with the set). We will be assembling the set pieces and setting up all of our lights and sound. This is mostly a work day for the tech team.
Show week: Call times are listed in the schedule.
(Orphan families: if you have any quiet activities that you can send that the kids can do during show week that would be greatly appreciated. They have been doing great during rehearsals but during show week we will need things for them to do during their down time. Coloring supplies, activity books, card games, etc. Please know that anything you send might get destroyed so please do not send anything that you care about or things that are expensive. Thanks for your help with this!)
Monday, March 16th is a longer day for the cast as our tech team works to get all of the technical elements in place. Please have an extra level of patience this day as we work through things. We will plan to run all of the orphan scenes first and then send the orphans home. Orphans will be done around 8:00 pm. Orphans will also be sent home this day with their costumes. They will need to get dressed at home every day and come in their costumes as we have no place for them to change at the school. On Saturday, orphans will need to bring a change of clothes to change into (in the bathrooms) at the end of the run.
Tuesday, March 17th is dress rehearsal!! Full hair, makeup and costumes, no audience. Orphans only need to wear blush and have their messy hair done. Everyone else needs to wear basic stage makeup. Check the information page on the cast website for details on hair and makeup. We will have a professional photographer come this day as well as on Wednesday to capture the other cast.
Wednesday, March 18th – friends and family day. This is a free preview day for friends and family. Please let people know that it is still a dress rehearsal and we may need to stop to fix things but hopefully not. No tickets are needed. First come, first serve on seating. Doors open at 6:30.
Thursday – Saturday – performance days!! Hooray! We will have a potluck meal in between the two shows on Saturday. Please bring something to share. Keep in mind that we do not have refrigerator space or anywhere to keep food warm. Crockpots and coolers have helped in the past so bring those if you are bringing hot or cold food. Huckleberry will provide plates, cups, napkins and utensils and water bottles. (Do we have a parent volunteer that wants to help organize the potluck a little better than I have outlined in this paragraph? Sign up genius maybe?)
Saturday/closing night reminders: Please remember to bring your scripts to turn in! You can turn in your script any time during show week that you are finished with it. We’ll have a box set up to collect them in. Orphans remember to bring a change of clothes to change into at the end of the night. Strike after the last show: Everyone is expected to stay and help. Orphans will have some assignments and when they are done with their jobs (get to work!) they will be able to go home. Everyone else will stay to help break down and move everything out of the building and then unload at the Nielsen’s house. More detailed assignments to come. Family members can stay to help if they are teenagers or adults.
We have paid for a license to film this show (most shows don’t offer this option but this one did!) and will be taking a recording and then editing the show to give to each cast member. It will take us some time to get this done but rest assured, we will get you a copy. You will also have access to the professional photos.
We will also like to have a cast party after we complete a show to celebrate our success. This is typically held around 3 weeks after the shows and will include a meal and gifts for everyone and a fun cast video. More details to come!
Finally, please continue to invite people to come see the show! Our ticket sales are not as high as expected (most likely due to the spring break timing) so anything you can do to share and invite is greatly appreciated!!! You can share the posts we have going on social media. Sending personal texts and in person invitations are usually the most effective. Thanks for inviting people to come see the show!

Hair and Makeup:
Orphan makeup: Orphans DO NOT need to wear full stage makeup. Please wear some blush on your cheeks. We will most likely put some dirty smudge marks on some of the orphans but we have plenty of makeup for that at the school. Please do not attempt to add smudges at home (this will help us avoid people looking like they have black eyes or bruises). Our hair/makeup lady will smudge their faces when they get to the school.
Orphan hair: Please have your hair pulled back from your face in some way so we can see you. Younger girls, braids and pig tails would be fun. Older girls, half up/half down styles, braids, or pony tails would be great. Girls in between can choose an older or younger look. Hair should also look somewhat messy and sloppy so you can mess it up somewhat too (don’t go crazy with this, though, we still want you to look good).
Two young boys (Ernie and Vance). Have your hair combed. You don’t need to wear full stage makeup. Some blush on your cheeks would be appreciated or our makeup lady can add some when you get to the school.
Adult and teen ensemble + Lundyn and Adia when playing Annie.
Hair: I believe I have talked about hair with everyone already and it seems like everyone has a good handle on the plan for hair but please talk to your fellow actors or ask questions if you need help with anything. The few people who are wearing wigs (Lundyn, Adia, Amber, Megan) we will have someone available to help with wigs before the show if you need help.
Makeup: Please wear full stage makeup, standard/basic style. If you do not have stage makeup, there is an awesome store in downtown Boise called Crazy Neighbor that has some in stock and they can help you get the right color match to your skin tone. A basic Ben Nye makeup kit is what you need. They are around $25 and will last a very long time. Here is a link to their website. https://crazyneighbor.biz/
Headshots:
Our photographer has finished taking our headshot photos. They have been uploaded to his photography website where you can download your own photo for personal use if you would like to. Here is the link to the photos. https://www.leifbrandt.net/Theater/Headshots-Annie-2026-Huckleberrystar-

Videos at rehearsal:
We have noticed some people who have been taking videos at rehearsal. We are not necessarily against this, but we would like to ask for your help with something. Because of our contract with the licensing company, we can get into trouble if videos get posted online. Our contract is very specific about the amount of video content we can create and if we break our contract, we could lose our ability to secure any future licenses. Our ask: if you have been taking videos at rehearsal, please do not share them online publicly. Still pictures are not a problem, so feel free to take and share as many of those that you want. If the videos stay on your phone for your own benefit, that is fine. You will see us take a video of each choreography dance and post them “unlisted” (i.e. hidden/not public) so the cast can learn the dances. These are not to be shared publicly and are for learning purposes only. We have public facing content going out on our Facebook and Instagram pages and will soon be sharing cast photos/bios there too. Feel free to share anything from our business pages. Please help us by not posting any videos you take personally online so we don’t lose the ability to do future shows. Thanks for your understanding.
Shoes:
There have been several people who have asked about shoes. Some people like to get their show shoes early and rehearse in them so they are used to how they feel. You are not required to get your own shoes but if you have something at home that will work, it helps us out A LOT! If you would like to do this, here is the information for the different types of characters.
Women who are mansion servants or kickline dancers, you will need black character shoes. Rosalia has informed me that the best brands to buy are Bloch or Capisio, both available on Amazon. There are less expensive versions of these but they may fall apart easily. We don’t want this to be a burden on anyone so if need assistance purchasing shoes, please get in contact with Laura.
Women who are NOT mansion servants or kickline dancers will wear generic shoes. Your Hooverville and NYC costumes might require two different looking shoes. I have several bins of women’s shoes you can look through and find something that will fit you.
Men and boys: you will most likely be wearing dress shoes throughout the entire show. Ideally you would have something from home you could wear but I also have several bins of men’s shoes so I’m sure we can find something that will work for you. Men in the mansion scene will need a black dress shoe.
Orphans: Any generic shoe is great, the older looking the better. The ideal look is a lace up boot, either black or brown, that does not look modern. If you can’t find a lace up boot, you can also wear a Mary Jane style shoe (must have a strap to keep it on your feet while dancing) or some other generic shoe. I have been looking at thrift stores and have successfully collected quite a few orphan boots and have several bins of kid shoes and women’s shoes we can look through too. I probably have enough to give shoes to half of the orphans. If you are in a position to/want to find your own shoes, it helps us out quite a bit, but if not, we can find shoes for you over the coming weeks. We are asking you to please provide your own socks…whatever you think will work with an orphan costume. 🙂 If you have questions or want me to look at shoes you are considering wearing for the show, ask Laura at rehearsal or email me a picture at thehuckleberrystar@gmail.com.
